Time for another portrait! This time it's of a boy living in the "Time Travel Town" (no, still haven't come up with a better name). I don't really have a lot to say about this one, other than that it's fun painting kids :)

Not related to this post, just a matter of curiousity, but why do you never have people looking to the left? I expected Treat to at least face left, to mirror Trick. :P Teddy or Freddy facing left would probably work well too so people don't think the redhead is going Super Saiyan every time blondey speaks.
ReplyDeleteBut that is hilarious when it happens.
Haha, I never thought about that Super Saiyan thing, but I can see it now! :)
DeleteThe games we've been inspired by all seem to have the characters face more or less the same direction, so we actually decided that ours should too, in order for them to feel more coherent :)
Ooh. I always played RPGs like Shining Force or Suikoden as a kid, where the direction of the portrait was almost an afterthought. They would draw the entire full body of the character, then just cut out what they needed to use for the portrait. That's entirely way too more timeconsuming than the portraits in SoG though, especially give you give every single character a portrait, not just the main characters.

http://www.spriters-resource.com/resources/sheets/36/39057.png Huh. Even Yuffie, Vincent and Cait Sith face right. I wonder if that's because they're traitors / optional characters, or just an afterthought?
Of course, that method doesn't apply to you, since you draw all the characters at the same angle, facing the same direction, so everyone does wind up looking nice and uniform with everyone else.
It would look a little weird if just Freddy and Treat were the only characters in the game who looked left, I guess. :P Nevermind, then.
